Marathon for WATER - CHICAGO 2019 - DONE!
Chicago Marathon was completed on 13 Oct 2019
Official time 3:40:59

My official time is 3:40:59h which is a Personal Best (PB) from my last marathon effort at 3:51:15h :). Am I happy with that? Yes, I am. With injuries (lower back, hip and ankle), freezing cold race day, jet lag and only 12 weeks training after 6 months of almost no running I was not expecting much.
Trying to shut up the monkey on my shoulder saying I could have pushed harder and listen to the wise friend who reminded me that 'It is not worth pushing your injuries too hard for a race. There will be other races and you have already won the biggest prize in this one - helped towards improving the life of others via the Workout for Water campaign.'
My heart is content. 🙏

LesMills BodyCombat video recorded and submitted! I was nervous.
The second the recording stopped I unleashed and had the most awesome class ever!

The fundraising effort is almost complete thanks to YOU my generous sponsors. Shout-out to:

What am I currently up to:
With less than 3 weeks to the marathon I am working to ensure I am prepared for the challenge ahead.
So, what is there to prepare you might ask?! A runner just have to ..well .. run, right?
Absolutely, but not only. I found out the hard way (after an injury) how important strength training is to ensure that the body can cope with the training load and the demands of the race day itself.
I have been working with COMMANDO ACTIVE on my strength and mindset and I feel stronger and fitter than ever before both physically and mentally.
What is next:
- Last few speed/ tempo sessions and medium / long runs
- Last few strength sessions
- Selecting and testing out my kit for the race
- Finishing off my playlist (yes, I run with music. ALWAYS!)
- Recording a video of me teaching a LesMills BodyCombat Class . I am so nervous and excited at the same time. (This group fitness class is an absolute passion of mine! You should give it a try).
Once again thank you for your ongoing support. It means a lot to me

So what have I been up to since:
- I did my longest run last weekend – 35km (about 21 miles)
- I smashed yet another hill session (thanks to Air-CONDITIONED running community) and topped that up with some old fashioned speed intervals (these hurt).
- Pushed through a challenging tempo run guided by an outstanding running coach and colleague – Ian McLaren.
What is coming next:
- 30 km (18 miles) run coming up this weekend, working on adding some speed to the km/miles. Give me a shout if you would like to join me
Let’s help provide some clean water to the communities in Ethiopia that need it.

I am doing hill training tonight after work which involves mobility drills and running up 4 – 6% incline hill repeatedly at a close to max intensity for about 60 min.
During the training I will drink at least 1 litre of water.
Will you help me treat children in Ethiopia to the same hydrating ‘luxury’?

Marathon for WATER
I am currently training for my next marathon challenge and fundraising for Workout for Water.
I need your help in raising funds to provide communities in Ethiopia with clean water.
I take about 4h to complete a marathon and I need weeks to fully recover. A child in Ethiopia walks for 4h to get to clean water on regular basis....I doubt they get any time to recover..
Any donation however small will be appreciated.
